My husband and I decided to visit our local zoo. We started by waking up at 0800 and taking a shower. We then did our skincare routine and continued to make our breakfast. by 0930 we cleaned the house up and packed some drinks and snacks to bring them along as the weather was 95 degrees and sunny.
The zoo requires everyone to keep at least 6 ft distance and to wear masks in enclosed areas of the zoo.
At our arrival we waited a couple of minutes until it was our time to enter. The first thing we did was visit the orangutans! They were absolutely beautiful and almost as a big as me. We took a couple pictures and continued our walk. We also visited the GIRAFFES! Probably one of my favorite animals. There were even baby giraffes which were only 5 months old! We caught them nursing and snacking on the tall trees.
For those who never been here, the giraffes are pretty much loose and we walk on a bridge-like structure to see them. The cutest part was that there was an ostrich with the giraffes. Apparently these type of giraffes can grow up to 18 feet and are born at 6 feet! Now imagine, I'm only 4'11.
There was also this cute bamboo maze, except it wasn't really a maze but more like a bamboo field. Either way this was probably one of my favorite parts of the zoo as well. We ended up taking pictures and it just looked and felt peaceful.
We got some dippin dots mid trail because it was SO HOT. It was very tasty and I even wondered who and how did they invent dippin dots. Like right? Was it a mistake and they just rolled with it? Either way, we sat in the shade and enjoyed our ice cream.
Afterwards, we went to the petting farm but because it was so hot, most of the animals were in the barn, in the shade and under a fan. However, we did get to see the llamas, pigs/hogs and goats. The reptile enclosure was still closed because of COVID restrictions.
Towards the end of our trail we decided to take the train around the zoo. It was only $2 per person and the masks were required to attend the train ride. It was nice being able to sit and relax our feet. We were able to somewhat see the lion, cheetahs and bears. The entire day cost us about $50, $17 per person ticket fee, $2 train ride and $12 for our ice cream.
Overall this was an amazing date! Just prepare to walk a lot so I recommend wearing comfy shoes and check the weather the morning of and dress accordingly! Also remember to bring your mask and hand sanitizer. You'll definitely see tons of animals from zebras to lions to even white peacocks!
Have fun and enjoy! Feel free to send me pictures of your day at the Virginia zoo!
